Summer is over and no doubt your heating has been switched on. Now we will all see our energy bills rise and if the experts are correct this could be a record year for increases. So, time to act?

There are plenty of actions you can take to ensure your home is more energy efficient, for starters just stop the drafts. Then have a look at the insulation in the loft and ask yourself is it doing the job it should do? If not change it, it’s really not that expensive and will save you a fortune each year.

Next have a look at what is on offer from your energy supplier.

Energy suppliers giveaway

1) The big energy suppliers are giving subsidies or even free to those receiving certain benefits heat saving measures from new boilers to insulation. This situation is due to efficiency obligations to people in certain groups. Were you aware of this?

2) Boilers are one of the biggest contributors to your energy bills and this looks set to increase very soon – the more efficient your boiler, the more heat it produces from each unit. Depending on its age, a shiny new efficient one could save you between £200 and £400 a year.

3) Cavity wall insulation can slice between £160 and £400 off energy bills every year according to the Energy Saving Trust.

4) If your loft isn’t insulated and you get it fitted with 270mm of new insulation, this’ll save another £220-£440 a year.
